I was born in Alexandra, St., Lucy and grew up in Rose Hill St. Peter’s Barbados. After graduating from High School, I worked at the Barbados Customs as an Excise officer for two years. As a youth I was very active in sports and participated in the Boys’ Scout activities, winning the four “H” judging competition in 1968. Music was my passion and I played as a band member/manager of a nine piece combo band called the “Chisels” for four years.
In 1972 I immigrated to the United States residing in New York. I completed my degree in electronics from RCA and months later relocated to California. There I worked for GTE/Verizon for over 29 years before retiring in 2009. At Verizon I was a very active employee for the company and the Union, becoming chairperson for the Committee on Equity in the local, the district and also at the international level. My training was in all aspects of the telephone from copper to fiber placing and splicing.
I have worked with various organizations, including the Barbadian community and am currently the president of Southern California Health and Education. My leadership skills also extends to the Boys’ Scout of America and the president of the Norwalk Lion’s Club from 2014-2015, Commissioner for the City of Norwalk Community Service and the chairperson for the Norwalk Parks and Recreation Commission.
With such leadership skills I know I can take NABO to the next level. In 1996 I attended the NABO Convention in Atlanta and have been an active member from then to present. Over the years I have watched the organization go in many directions, we are at the moment having what I would call a listening problem and the member organizations believe that their voices are not heard.
If elected I promise to value your opinions, suggestions and recommendations at all times. I will pay much attention to the Board of Directors and make sure that all adopted motions will be followed to the letter of the By-Laws. Every director will have an equal voice at the table. I will work diligently for a better NABO.
Together we can bring ideas that will work for the betterment of Barbadians at home and abroad. Your vote is very important to me and I will start the next day bringing clarity and directions back to NABO.
